At SW Autoworx, we take pride in delivering the highest standard of vehicle protection solutions. Recently, we had the opportunity to perform what we consider our most intrusive and thorough underbody protection package yet—on a brand-new 2025 Mazda MX-5.
The MX-5 has always been an iconic sports car, BUT it has also been known for its troubles with corrosion... even the latest model. Protecting it from the elements is crucial to preserving it long term, here’s how we ensured every exposed and vulnerable component received the highest level of care and protection:
Full Underbody and Subframe Protection with IGL Coatings AEGIS (Click here)
We began by coating the entire exposed underbody, including subframes and wheel arches, with IGL Coatings AEGIS. This is an Award Winning Graphene reinforced clear coating, designed to shield against moisture, salt, and road debris. This provides the first line of defense where the car is most exposed.

Secondary Protection for Non-Exposed Areas
All Non-directly exposed areas were coated with Bilt Hamber UC Wax, (We cannot safely and evenly apply IGL Aegis into more challenging areas, however this is being worked on). UC was used in areas that could be visible and therefore allowing you overtime to view for any corrosion. (Much easier to see a clear or semi clear coating and any corrosion than if you had a black or dark colour coating)
We located all bungs along the chassis rails, sill etc, removed these to allow access to injected Bilt Hamber S50, a specialist cavity wax designed to protect hard-to-reach internal surfaces where corrosion often starts. All cavities were thoroughly filled, checked and further coating applied to ensure a thorough and even application.
Being non-exposed and whilst we do recommend checks and top-ups, should last as long as Aegis.
Doors & Boot Area
The door cards were stripped down safely and then Bilt Hamber wax injected along the bottom edge of the door where moisture or water can run.
The boot area was completely striped back and IGL Aegis applied to the accessible areas of the boot. Then Bilt Hamber cavity wax was applied to the more challenging areas to get to. Most importantly.... its thoroughly protected!
High-Temperature Ceramic Coating for Performance Components
The full exhaust system, suspension components, running gear, lower engine and head areas, gearbox, and differential were coated with IGL Coatings Eclipse—a high-temperature-resistant ceramic coating.

Detailing for Plastics, Panels, and Chassis Areas
IGL Trim was applied to all engine bay plastics, the scuttle panel, and arch liners to restore and protect these surfaces.
Dinitrol 4010 was used on the chassis areas surrounding the engine and exhaust for additional anti-corrosion protection in high-temp zones.
Summery -
This multi-stage process ensures this new MX5 is protected for many years to come.
IGL Aegis is unrivalled in its durability and protection, a perfect addition to a Mazda or any vehicle to ensure it has the ultimate in protection.
Going to this level and length of protection take times to both safely strip down and rebuild a vehicle. We have worked on and applied all these coatings on used and brand new vehicles, we believe its really important to protect the areas that can ultimate affect future value of vehicles.
